Hi, I'm 51 as long as i can remember I always thought about what I was going to say & predict the response before speaking...doesn't everyone do this! I was nicknamed " The pain" as a child, I always had a pain somewhere, I thought this was funny when I was told this. I was very clingy to my mother & shy, again just 1 of those things. Many many other traits, but the think before speak has me dumbfounded. I'm in late menopause & omg things are amplified to the point all of this has came to a huge crash, I've been know as a giggling, funny girl/woman, but what scared me was when talking & laughing with someone I began to noticed as soon as there back was turned, my face instantly dropped the smile/laugh...seems I've been a high functioning masking type ...its all just wow atm...any noise, smell, light sends my senses into overdrive, it's all so much right now, I'm just exhausted

Hi Jaye,
I've found so many " doesn't everybody do that?" moments that it could be quite difficult looking at myself in a different way. Lots of overthinking and bouncing anywhere from laughter to guilt when I tried to consider how I must seem to others (because apparently everyone doesn't do that 🤣). The difference between masking and ordinary social adaptation isn't always that clear so I expect there will be more moments to come.
Hope it gets a bit less intense for you

The human brain is amazing the way it adapts to things, I was literally arguing with myself, nah everyone does it...but decided to delve deeper into my usual ways & quirky things...oh my I can't deny that I've actually been putting on a performance all my life ...your right it is very difficult to see yourself in another way, I guess that's why everything is hitting me hard ...my body & mind are starting to rebel lol

The physical toll is surprisingly heavy, isn't it? I didn't think it could be true that people experiencing burnout could take 1-2 years getting through it. I'm starting to understand why now. I'm feeling better than I have in maybe 5 years. Acknowledging the sheer effort i'd been putting in to 'getting by' made it easier to take a step back and pace myself. Long road!

Welcome to the late diagnosis club! Every day is still a learning curve and remembering yet something else in my life and them realising it was my autism or ADHD

It's just so surreal I've went through a lot this past week my head dosnt know wether it's coming or going it's been very difficult but finally today I got a break, even if it's just this 1 day I'm grateful but another would be fantastic
