Video Calling

Does anyone use video calling apps like Zoom for example? What are your experiences of it? I'm interested to know about both social contact and business things like job interviews through video chat.

I've heard that people sometimes get burnout from it, but I've never used Zoom or anything like that (except House Party once) so I don't know.

It is not terrible, but I have much more trouble following a conversation/ideas on zoom then in person. Which is not so bad with friends but very troublesome with classes. I am fortunate that the people I regularly zoom which are fine with everyone muting when not speaking when not speaking and keeping video off makes it much easier. The few times I haven’t had those accommodations have been quite unpleasant, I seem to be able to only understand one word in six and get quite tired afterwards.

Ah, ok. Glad it's not TOO bad. Work are getting Microsoft Teams and I'm dreading the day they make me use it. I haven't got the memory for it on my phone so I'll use that as an excuse lol.

my art studio (venture arts,a Manchester based studio for artists with any level of learning disability though most of us are autistic as well)did someth8ng incredible for me when lockdown happened, because sessions switched to 1-1 sessions on zoom,I had no way of communicating and using zoom at the same time,so they sent me a spare iPad with zoom on,and I use my own iPad for proloquo2go.

I have now accessed several zoom chats including from ‘outside in‘ (whom I am part of,a art agency for disabled or otherwise affected artists) and HOME in Manchester which runs a disco for adults with LD(one of the bands that plays is called the spotlighters I recommend checking their non live videos out on YouTube, most band members have severe LD and very complex health needs but are very good at what They do,they Did a set on zoom one evening for us members which was very cool).

sometimes the speakers don’t pick up the sound of my AAC well, must be a time delay thing or overloaded zoom servers.
