Thoughts On Hannah Gadsby?

Hannah Gadsby's new show Douglas has been on Netflix for a while now. Who's had chance to watch it, and what did you think? I liked it and thought it was funny as well as making an important point in the mainstream scene. As things stand at the moment I don't think there's anything really in the comedy circuit that highlights autism in a positive way. There's TV shows like Atypical and The A Word, but nothing that I know of in terms of stand-up.

ive never heard of Hannah before but I love stand up commedy,I’m going to put it on my list as I have some tasks to do now but I will get around to this tomorrow.
 
I actually saw her previous show - Nanette - by accident because a friend thought I'd enjoy Douglas but didn't specify it by name! That was deeply distressing to watch, but absolutely phenomenal too. It made Douglas feel quite disappointing by comparison. I found the introduction funny, but the overall show really didn't resonate for me. I love that she's out there though... it felt like she's maybe had too much input from neurotypical psychiatrists and not enough time hanging out with other spectrum folk?
 
Hannah is amazing. I met her when she was presenting at a conference I was involved with when I lived in AU - she's exactly the same on and offstage, which I now realise is largely due to her Autism. It was nice to learn that she was Autistic not long after I found out I am... we don't have so many strong female autistic role models, obviously due in large part to the historical lack of any kind of medical awareness for women's anything - thanks patriarchy! I'm so glad she's out there, helping other Autistic women see how awesome it is to own who we are :)

That's interesting. I preferred Douglas over Nanette because Douglas isn't as heavy and is more comedy-based, which she addresses in the show itself.
