Peri-menopause and neurodivergence

Hi, I’m AuDHD 41 and I’m pretty sure peri-menopausal. I’ve been having signs and symptoms since I had a ‘breakdown’ 4.5 years ago, which happened not long after having my contraceptive implant removed. I’m now wondering if my ‘breakdown’ was actually caused by hormonal changes.

Anyhow, I know feel like I’m really struggling again. I was fine, apart from excessive sweating, until about a week ago and I know feel pretty terrible.

I keep telling myself it’s just a blip but I don’t know whether I should allow my body to do what it wants, ie eat loads of carbs, sit on the sofa and binge watch tv whilst crying, or force myself to stay keto and continue on with my routines and hope I don’t end up with exhaustion?

Also it’s my son’s GCSE results on Thursday which is also stressing me out. Oh and my Drs have decided that anything hormone related requires an on the day appointment and I’ll need to call at 8am, spend half my morning on hold to be told all the appointments have gone. I also don’t feel that this warrants an urgent Drs appointment as I’m not dying and it’s been going on for a while.

I’m not sure what the point of this thread is. I suppose it’s to see what others have experienced and to get some advice from people who know something about how us spicey (hope no-ones offended by this term) people work.

Thanks for reading this far and for any advice and support you can offer.

I’d go ahead and get an appointment for HRT. I couldn’t function without it and it sounds like you have PM symptoms. I’ve found my executive functioning deteriorated, overheating and being itchy due to dry skin was very bad sensory and I too got depressed. Out the other side of 4 stone weight gain I wish I’d got my hormones under better control and stayed exercising as its now a very uphill struggle to reverse even though I now feel pretty ok.
