As a 69-year old autistic person, every time I am directed to a service providers' website to discuss, amend or complain, I find myself at the receiving end of some contract clause, TCs, that I supposedly agreed with, fees, or some hidden button that I allegedly clicked or unclicked so they can take money out of my account - whatever the case may be. You can never win.
When I try to speak to a real person, I get bombarded with no-reply emails throwing all sorts of legal clauses at me and asking me for every possible personal detail before even looking at my request.
I get mostly overstimulated, anxious and angry from the way these messages are put together, and the trouble is that it happens almost on a daily base. I am thinking strongly about stopping all my electronic communication and going back to letter writing.
Because you can put T&Cs on the back of the letter, I would put together a number of clauses to offer protection for autistic people against these one-sided, unwanted and invasive messages. These T&Cs should address mainly reasonable adjustments in the way I want businesses to communicate with me. And if it has to be through emails, I would just attach my T&Cs as standard to any email I send out.
I've seen templates that can be used for communicating with the NHS, but I haven't found any for dealing with businesses.
Is there anyone who knows an (autistic) volunteer lawyer who could provide some guidance on how to put such a document together ?
I would very much like to make this document freely available for all autistic service users.
