Project Phoenix mentee course Lesson 18 – Autistic burnout

This lesson is about autistic burnout.

Autistic burnout is a phenomenon that can happen to an autistic individual when they become overwhelmingly exhausted, so they can’t cope with their daily routine: be this their job, expectations from family, caring for a relative or masking to seem neurotypical to others, for example. A burnout is categorised by feeling extremely exhausted and fatigued, having no motivation nor energy to continue to fulfil their life’s status quo as-is.

Please read through a handful of slides about ways to cope and recover from an autistic burnout:

The National Autistic Society has further detail on autistic burnout on their website: https://www.autism.org.uk/advice-and-guidance/professional-practice/autistic-burnout

Andy from SpectrumGaming also recorded a video about burnout for the young and not so young people: From Burnout to Thriving/
