It&#8217;s important to me (as I&#8217;m sure it is for most autistic people!) to know what to expect and what is coming up and when. Other than that I don&#8217;t think it could be improved!<\/p>\n<p>A more suitable time on having the sessions instead of in the middle of the day.<\/p>\n<p>Consistent uploading of the talks &#8211; don&#8217;t wait for 4 weeks and do a load in one go\u2026. List of course materials that can be accessed by participants in one place (on a single page you can scroll down, with summary, links to workshop video, and further reading, to re watch x workshop, etc)\u00a0 It&#8217;s really great though &#8211; this is constructive criticism but the bones of it, the guests, the content, the facilitation, the idea in itself and all the meat are all super great, don&#8217;t change them \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p>Better communication about where the programme might be delayed to avoid confusion over missing materials\/mentors. At the start a lot of us felt left in the dark.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"item\"><div class=\"content\"><h3 class=\"title\">What was the best \/ most helpful thing?<\/h3><div class=\"regency\"><\/div><div class=\"description\"><p>\u2018The way in which it was delivered\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Building cummunity\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Having a mentor\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u2018the group discussions and the mentoring combined\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Working with other autistic people who actually listen to me, understand the difficulties and care.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u2018The group sessions. The one-to-one mentoring is really important and valuable and I have got a lot out of it but being in a group with other autistic people and recognising myself in what they say and the way they say it has been really life-changing.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Understanding that my issues are part of my condition and that they can be managed.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Seeing myself in the other people in the group and liking myself better for how much I liked and respected them. For once, the algorithms of Facebook were doing something good!\u00a0 I think it is that we are welcomed to turn up in the way that suits us best, ie. it&#8217;s OK to have your camera off on Zoom. And that we are welcomed to give feedback and share as much or as little as we want, no cutting people off or telling them they are wrong to be the way they are. Please explain<\/h3><div class=\"regency\"><\/div><div class=\"description\"><p>\u2018More connection and u feel completely understood &#8211; you also know they are not going to try and make you more neurotypical but more yourself\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Extremely important, they understood everything that we were struggling with and so they were able to help in the correct way\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u2018This provided additional information that you would not normally get from people who do not have lived experience\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Very important. Building a trust and relationship with others is difficult, often I find people do not understand me this was not the case with my mentor.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u2018It is extremely important. We know ourselves best and can provide the best learning environment for our needs. We have the understanding that is necessary to put together a programme such as this. It would not have been the same if it was devised by a neurotypical person, that would have been like them looking in from the outside and trying to work out what they thought we needed.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Crucial. It takes an autistic person to understand another autistic person best.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u2018SO IMPORTANT! The programme content has been so great, and it really feels like an amazing space because (a) everyone understands (and I&#8217;d gone my whole life thinking no one could understand me), (b) I was *so* inspired, right from the start, by Marie &#38; Co for setting it all up (seeing what amazing autistic individuals on a forum can do working together dispelled any feelings I was useless or broken or ineffective &#8211; we can be powerful), but ALSO by the other people in the group &#8211; I identified with them, saw how they were ND and really liked them for it (I could NEVER like myself before I knew I was ND) &#8211; just the first information session was a great start for a positive autistic ID! NDSA has made such an amazing difference to my life in such a short time. I really mean it. The discussions are so good too &#8211; there&#8217;s a real hive kind thing going on. For me the information on branding and retaining employment was great, in particular how we can meet our own needs and learn to be assertive so that others meet them too. My mentor is great in sharing her perspective with me to broaden my understanding and confidence in my own skills, whilst being led by my preferences and needs in each session. We have built on what was in the course eg. personal branding, to look at how I can go and create my own personal brand.
